What They Do
At TransferWise our strategy emerges from the collective brainpower of all our people, who are organised in dozens of independent, autonomous teams.
Teams stay closest to our customers, so they choose what problems to solve and where to spend the most time.
Behind every transfer, is a story. Someone who started a new business, studied abroad or planned a wedding. And someone who helped make that happen. We're now over 1400 people, from 71+ nationalities, working in 11 cities around the world. Here’s what we love about working at TransferWise.
We listened to what our employees wanted from us as an employer and have tailored a benefits package around them, which includes; 6 weeks paid leave for people who have been at the company for four years, a flexible-working policy, generous maternity and paternity leave, and an annual all company trip away.
When we designed our new offices, we asked our teams what they’d like to have in their workplace. We’ve created office environments where people enjoy coming in and where they can do their best work.
Disability Insurance. Our employer paid short-term disability insurance pays you a portion of your earnings if you miss time at work because of a disabling illness or injury.

TransferWise is a British online money transfer service founded in January 2011 by Estonians Kristo Käärmann and Taavet Hinrikus and is based in London. There are currently seven language versions: English, Polish, French, Spanish, Italian, Hungarian, Portuguese, Chinese, German and Russian. Authorization can be done through a specially created user account or through user profiles on the social network Facebook or Google services.TransferWise was founded by Taavet Hinrikus, Skype's first employee, and financial consultant Kristo Käärmann. As Estonians working between their native country and the UK, they had personal experience of the "pain of international money transfer" due to bank charges on the amounts they needed to convert from euros to pounds and vice versa. In the words of Hinrikus, "I was losing five percent of the money each time I moved it. At the same time my co-founder Kristo Käärmann (also from Estonia) was starting to get paid in the UK and was losing a lot of money transferring cash back home to pay for a mortgage there".
